Rivesaltes, Maury or Banyuls aren’t characters from Marvel’s universe, but well and truly some prestigious designations of our french wine heritage…which are disappearing ! That’s why Philippe and Sandrine Gayral, thanks to their super-power which are the passion of History and the Love of the wine, are moderns heroes…

The place of their feats is located in the south of France, near Perpignan. There, the Roussilon’s wines make people happy. As for me, I have ever had a weakness for the Maury (whose I already declared my love…). But, for many years now, these sweet and strong wines, named “vins doux naturels” are disappearing. By the way, Courrier International remarks that “a good 70 million bottles of these wines from the Rivesaltes appellation were sold annually in the mid-20th century. Today, fewer than three million bottles of Rivesaltes are filled and sold each year”. And then, The Gayral Avengers act. But before to intervene, they had to develop their super-power. That’s why they worked in the most prestigious Banyuls’, Rivesaltes’ and Maury’s cellars. Then, seeing the unsold stocks growing (because Super-Philippe managed some rounds in the Roussillon’s cellars) by the recent plantation of Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet and the vinification of the Muscat in dry wine, as notices the Financial Times, these passionates of History decided to save this incredible heritage by hunting old vintages. Indeed, more than simple wines, it’s an evidence of a time, as underlined Spider-Gayral in Decanter, where WWI French soldiers found a bit of warm and comfort through these precious beverages. But more an evidence, these wines have an amazing potential of conservation. So, while a Mas Amiel’s tasting, the most well-known Maury, Captain-Gayral said: “There isn’t so much difference between a 1961 and a 1936 !”. Then, thanks to their super-sense of smell, they have unearthed some bottles of wine-growers who gave up the wine business because of the lack of the demand, to put on top line: Domaine Sainte-Lucie, Domaine of Lacresse or Château Sisqueille.
